day-21-the-100-book-of-the-day-excerpt

the-100-day-21-kass-morganSYNOPSIS:

No one has set foot on Earth in centuries — until now.

It’s been 21 days since the hundred landed on Earth. They’re the only humans to set foot on the planet in centuries…or so they thought. Facing an unknown enemy, Wells attempts to keep the group together. Clarke strikes out for Mount Weather, in search of other Colonists, while Bellamy is determined to rescue his sister, no matter the cost. And back on the ship, Glass faces an unthinkable choice between the love of her life and life itself.

WHY SHOULD YOU CHECK IT OUT?

One hundred troubled juvenile delinquents are sent to colonize the formerly abandoned Earth.  After three weeks, we’re finding out how that’s going… and that they weren’t the first people on the planet!  A soap opera in space and on land, there are sure to be plenty of characters for new readers to get into and old readers to excitedly return to.

Going with a cool color scheme, the cover bursts forth over the lush mountain landscape below as the sunlight streams in from behind the title.  Though what we are of course all staring at are the dozen plus kids free falling toward the Earth.  We think this only could have been better if there were three more figures, to bring the number up to twenty-one!

EARLY REVIEWS SAY…

It’s easy to be drawn in by the Lord of the Flies-style tension that builds as the teens struggle to set up a new society on a battered Earth, and by the smoldering romances that hang in the balance. (Publishers Weekly)

A mash-up of the hit TV reality show Survivor and traditional science fiction…Morgan’s weave of pop-culture elements and politics make for a gripping read. (School Library Journal)
