Horns
As the years pass since the end of the Harry Potter franchise, Daniel Radcliffe has had the opportunity to take on some interesting roles to help move him away from being perceived as only “the guy who played Harry Potter.” His most notable roles have been in The Woman in Black, Kill Your Darlings, and the BBC series A Young Doctor’s Notebook. Daniel’s latest role is in the book-to-screen adaptation of Joe Hill’s novel Horns, and it promises to drastically change the way audiences feel about Daniel Radcliffe and what he is capable of as an actor.

The novel was released in 2010, the second by author Joe Hill, who also wrote Heart-Shaped Box and NOS4A2 (pronounced like Nosferatu, an ancient name for vampire). The novel was nominated for a Bram Stoker Award, an award that is given by the Horror Writers Association for achievement in horror and dark fantasy fiction.

The story focuses on Ig, a young man who comes under suspicion after his girlfriend is murdered. One morning, he awakens with two horns sprouting out of his forehead, which seem to have enabled him with the power to extract the innermost secrets of those with whom he comes into contact. He then uses his newfound ability to solve the mystery of what actually happened to his girlfriend.

The film began production in September, 2012 in Vancouver, Squamish, and Mission, British Columbia. It is directed by Alexandre Aja, who has horrified audiences with his masterful work in the horror genre, such as The Hills Have Eyes, Piranha 3D, Mirrors, and High Tension. The film co-stars Juno Temple (Greenberg, Melficent) as Merrin, Ig’s deceased girlfriend, as well as Max Minghella (The Social Network, The Internship) as Lee, a mutual friend of Ig’s and Merrin’s.

Horns opens in theaters on October 31, and is currently available on iTunes and other on-demand services.
